Two Decades of Transitioning from Production to Classic Car Restoration

A Journey of Passion, Mentorship, and Craftsmanship

After retiring from a rewarding career managing production companies in commercials and music videos, I set out on a new adventure. This second chapter would allow me to merge my skills as a producer with my lifelong love for classic cars. I soon realized that enthusiasm alone wouldn’t be enough to master the art of restoration. Determined to learn from the ground up, I took a position at Jack’s Auto Body with the goal of mastering the basic techniques required to supervise the restoration of vintage car bodies and interiors.


Under the guidance of Marc Dupre, my understanding of restoration grew considerably. For example, Marc once showed me what it took to repair a damaged fender on a 1967 Mustang. The process was intricate and demanding, but seeing the flawless result was deeply satisfying. That experience showed me the value of patience and precision, and it instilled in me the confidence needed to tackle complex restoration projects.

As I spent more time at Jack’s, I became familiar with the many facets of the trade. I learned how to coordinate parts organization, source and refurbish rare components, and oversee both body and interior repair. Each project brought new challenges, and each solution added to my sense of accomplishment.

After several years, I decided it was time to continue my education elsewhere. I joined Safe and Sound Designs, where my skills deepened further. Working for Stefan Friscia—a gifted designer, fabricator and problem solver—allowed me to grow into the role as a producer of restored and restomodded cars. One especially memorable project was a custom restomod that combined vintage charm with modern technology. Collaborating with Stefan on that build taught me the artistry required to honor a car’s legacy while enhancing its performance and comfort.

When Stefan eventually relocated to Arizona, I agreed to take over the restoration segment of the business, doing so under my own banner. This move allowed me to apply the expertise I had gained and to be able to rely on the connections I’d made with some talented craftsmen and top-quality suppliers.


One of my oldest friends and most valued collaborators in the restoration world is Joe DeMeo. Joe produces classic car restorations at the highest level. To work around Joe in his hangar will only enhance my standards and improve my abilities. With Joe’s collaboration and guidance, I am confident that Zuma’s Restorations will become known for the kind of quality and attention to detail that true car enthusiasts appreciate.
